The 2016 presidential election is centered around the Iowa State Fair
this week, as 20 presidential candidates -- both Democrats and
Republicans -- will make the trip to Des Moines over the next week.
They’ll be serving themselves up to voters, and they’ll be served all kinds of deep fried foods.
So far, nine candidates, including Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Bernie Sanders,
pitched their messaging to fair-goers at the Des Moines Register
Soapbox, a stage surrounded by haystacks.
On Saturday, August 15, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump didn't give speeches at the soapbox, but both held a media availability and drew a large crowd around them.
The State Fair is a rite of passage for White House hopefuls – a place
for the candidates to flip some pork chops, pet the animals and mingle
with potential caucus-goers.
